The quick answer
Follow the main story until the basic development menus open, learn one pair of Martial Arts, and improve that pair before spreading materials across alternatives. Activate nearby travel points and collect Oddities as you explore. You can leave most competitive and lifestyle systems for later.

Your first session: establish a reliable character
Start by making the controls comfortable. Find your lock-on, deflect, dodge, weapon-swap and healing inputs, then practise them against an ordinary enemy. A character you can control under pressure will carry you farther than a collection of unfamiliar skills.
Use the main story as the spine of your route through Qinghe. Detour for a nearby travel point, obvious chest or short activity, then return to the tracked objective. Trying to clear every symbol before moving on makes it harder to learn which systems actually unlock through progression.
- Follow the tracked main objective until you can inspect your equipped Martial Arts and gear.
- Choose the pair you will use for the next few fights; practise swapping back to the first style.
- Activate a Boundary Stone near your route and complete one nearby Oddity interaction.
- Visit the relevant Oddity collector when the exchange is available, then claim an affordable useful reward.
- Return to the story. Stop to upgrade when you can name the problem: a locked tier, weak equipment or an unused passive slot.
Learn the defensive answers before a long combo
Red attack flashes signal deflection opportunities; yellow or gold warnings call for a dodge. Time your response to the incoming strike, not simply to the first appearance of a warning. Breaking enemy Qi creates an Exhausted opening and an opportunity to Execute.
- Watch one enemy attack sequence without trying to finish your whole combo.
- Practise responding to its final strike, then add a short punish.
- Keep enough Endurance to escape when the next attack begins.
- Use healing during a safe opening instead of repeatedly drinking under pressure.
Make your first investments coherent
Martial Arts are your combat move sets. Gear supplies equipment stats, while Inner Ways add passive effects. These are different development tracks. Replacing a sword item does not mean you have upgraded the sword technique you use with it.
Our recommendation is to settle on a pair that feels comfortable, keep those Martial Arts developed, and improve your equipped gear slots. Save expensive fine-tuning for a clearer build goal. If an upgrade needs a material you lack, inspect its acquisition information before wandering away to farm something with a similar name.
Build an exploration habit that saves time
Activate Boundary Stones as you pass them and reveal local information through Wayfarers. Collect nearby Oddities and follow their regional Melodies of Peace progression; collecting and handing them in are separate steps. These small detours make later trips more useful without demanding an immediate completionist route.
When a puzzle will not respond, note the location and what it appears to require. You may need a technique or quest step rather than more damage. A useful note says “mechanism below bridge, missing interaction,” not just “chest here.”
What can safely wait?
| System | First-session approach |
|---|---|
| Fine gear tuning | Wait until you understand the stats and set you want. |
| Sects | Read the rules before joining; membership is a separate choice from your first weapon. |
| Careers and Homestead | Try the introduction if it interests you, then return when you want that activity. |
| Ranked PvP | Learn your kit and the mode rules before judging your character by wins. |
End a session by claiming completed rewards and choosing one next objective. For example: finish the current chapter step, reach the next Martial Art breakthrough, or deliver the Oddities already in your bag. That gives your next login a clear purpose.

Common questions
Do I need a perfect build before exploring?
No. A coherent pair of Martial Arts, sensible equipment and reliable defensive timing are a better starting goal. Optimisation becomes useful when you can identify the fight or activity you want to improve.
Should I clear Qinghe completely before continuing?
Only if that is how you enjoy exploring. Follow explicit story requirements, but do not turn an optional completion percentage into a requirement that the game has not imposed.
What should I do if my level stops increasing?
Open Solo Mode → Upgrade and inspect the next breakthrough. A cap can require a challenge or an unlock time. Excess EXP can be stored while capped; gaining more EXP does not bypass the breakthrough requirement.
