The quick answer
Open Develop → Talents and choose the branch before selecting a node. Basic Talents contain general development and action unlocks; Arena Talents concern eligible competitive modes; Boss Talents require named encounter objectives. Read the prerequisite and scope of each node instead of treating every talent as a general damage increase.

Find Talents and identify the selected branch
Open the main menu, choose Develop, then change from Abilities or Gear to Talents. The category selector within Talents chooses Basic, Arena or Boss. A row of weapon levels belongs to Abilities; a grid of equipment belongs to Gear. Back out to the Develop tabs if you are in either of those screens.
If the feature is still locked, read its unlock notice and finish the relevant introduction. Do not spend materials elsewhere trying to make a hidden tab appear. Character progression, a particular node’s prerequisite and the resource needed to buy that node are separate checks.
| Branch | What you are inspecting | Beginner priority |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | General abilities, action unlocks and supporting improvements. | Read first when a control or world action seems unavailable. |
| Arena | Competitive effects with a stated scope. | Inspect when preparing for an eligible Arena activity. |
| Boss | Encounter-specific challenges and their rewards. | Inspect the boss and mode you actually intend to run. |
Read a talent node before activating it
- Select the node and read the effect, not only its icon or position.
- Identify whether it unlocks an action or strengthens an existing action.
- Read every prerequisite, including preceding development or the stated challenge.
- Check the point or material cost and the current versus next rank.
- Activate it only when the requirement is met, then return to the relevant action or stat to confirm the result.
A node can be visible without being available. If two conditions appear, satisfying one does not waive the other. Write the remaining condition down exactly; “need more progress” is less useful than the name of the required node or encounter.
For a hypothetical example, a node might require an earlier unlock and one available point. Holding the point does not replace the earlier unlock. This is a way to read prerequisites, not a statement that every talent uses that cost.
Start with the basic action you are missing
The Basic branch includes entries for actions such as Wind Sense, charged attacks, Special Skills and Dual-Weapon Skills. These are not all interchangeable percentage boosts. An unavailable move may need its action unlock before practising the input will help.
Our recommendation is to pick a concrete need. If you are struggling to notice world interactions, inspect Wind Sense. If a Martial Art tutorial mentions an attack you cannot perform, compare the move’s requirements with your Basic Talents and the art’s own development. Check both before changing your control layout.
Basic Talents are not Martial Art breakthrough effects
The word talent also appears in descriptions of Martial Art development. Improving a particular art can unlock features for that art; this is not the same screen as selecting a general Basic Talent. When a guide names a weapon technique, check which system owns the unlock.
| What is missing? | Inspect |
|---|---|
| A general combat action | Develop → Talents → Basic and the action’s requirement. |
| A feature on one named Martial Art | That art’s level, breakthrough and skill description. |
| A passive interaction | The equipped Inner Way and its tier. |
| An exploration skill gated by attributes | Develop → Details → Exploration Skills. |
This distinction prevents a common waste of effort: collecting more talent resources when the missing effect belongs to an underdeveloped weapon style. Follow the requirement from the actual locked feature.
Read Arena talents inside the mode you are preparing for
Arena-specific effects should be evaluated for the competitive activity where they operate. Do not expect a talent described for Arena to solve an ordinary story boss. Different competitive activities can have their own development adjustments, so inspect the selected mode before assuming your normal character screen describes the match.
Choose a familiar pair, open the relevant Arena preparation screen and read the available effects. Give each selection a purpose: an attack you land, a control situation you need to escape or a defensive response you can use. Practise that action before judging the talent by wins or losses.
Boss Talents follow the named encounter’s objectives
In the Boss branch, choose an encounter and inspect the objective attached to its node. These are challenge unlocks: the required boss version, mode and action matter. Clearing a campaign appearance of a boss does not establish that you completed an objective naming its Sword Trial or group version.
Read whether the objective needs a clear, a particular mechanic, a reward claim or a combination. Then tell your group if the attempt requires coordination. Afterward, reopen the node and check its recorded progress before repeating a long run.
Do not budget ordinary Basic Talent points as though they can buy every Boss challenge. Nor should you assume that a boss-specific bonus helps against all enemies. The encounter and effect text determine its use.
Why is the talent locked or apparently doing nothing?
| Symptom | Likely check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| A point is available but the node is locked | A prerequisite remains unmet. | Read every requirement line. |
| Unlocked an action but cannot use it | Input, selected art or use conditions. | Read that action’s description and practise in a valid context. |
| No improvement against a story enemy | The effect may name Arena or a particular boss. | Check scope before spending elsewhere. |
| Defeated the boss but gained no challenge credit | Wrong mode, condition or closing step. | Compare the objective with the completed run. |
| Cannot find an exploration unlock | It may belong to the exploration-attribute panel. | Open Details → Exploration Skills. |
A useful first check ends with one confirmed unlock and one understood action. You do not need to plan every future rank before returning to play.

Common questions
Do Boss Talents improve every fight?
No. Inspect the encounter and mode named by the effect. Challenge completion and the scope of the resulting bonus are both specific.
Are exploration attributes the same as Basic Talents?
No. Exploration Skills use their own attribute requirements under Details. Basic Talents are a separate Develop branch.
