The quick answer
Thundercry Blade uses shields and Fighting Spirit to support heavy charged attacks. Learn it through the early selection or Well of Heaven training route, then practise charge stages before adding weapon swaps.

Obtain the Mo Blade Martial Art
Thundercry Blade is an early weapon-selection option. If you chose something else, track its acquisition to the Well of Heaven Martial Camp in Kaifeng and complete the Skill Theft route. The surface camp still has infiltration restrictions, so do not assume normal open-world traversal works throughout it.
Use the art's acquisition marker and prepare the stealth tools explained in the Skill Theft guide. After learning it, equip the Mo Blade style and identify its separate light-charge and heavy-charge actions. A player describing a charged attack may mean either one.
Read the resource before choosing a move
Predator's Shield establishes a shield and supplies Fighting Spirit. Sunrush Gale spends that resource on its pull-and-sweep action; bosses are not ordinary pullable enemies. Galecloud Cleave and Avalanche are charged actions with follow-ups tied to their completed stages and available resource.
This creates a practical choice: spend now, or preserve enough for the next action you intend to perform. Repeatedly pressing an unavailable follow-up does not solve an empty resource bar. Inspect the meter before concluding that the input is broken.
Practise light and heavy charges separately
Start outside a demanding fight and read the input icons shown for your own platform. Hold the light-attack action and watch its charge stages; then repeat with the heavy-attack action. Note the animation and timing cue for the final stage before trying to chain the varied follow-up.
Our suggested drill is to repeat one charge until you can release it at the intended stage three times in a row. Next, add its follow-up with resource available. Only then add Stormbreaker Spear. This separates a timing mistake from a resource mistake and avoids learning a long sequence by blind repetition.
Connect Stormbreaker’s Drumbeat
Stormbreaker Spear's completed charged sequence can supply Drumbeat, which interacts with Thundercry Blade's Martial Art Skill. That is the reason to understand the partner weapon's finishing hit. Swapping before the condition appears may remove the very benefit you were trying to bring into the blade sequence.
The Stonesplit Might guide explains the pair as a whole. Use it once both individual weapons are familiar rather than treating a long rotation as the starting point.
Shields do not remove encounter mechanics
A shield is a defensive resource with a duration and limits. Do not use the heavy animation as permission to ignore a red or gold warning, a ground hazard or a forced movement mechanic. If the boss is about to leave range, holding for another charge stage may reduce the damage you actually land.
Against ordinary enemies, grouping can make wide attacks useful. Against bosses, plan around their recovery windows instead of expecting the pull to control them. These require different positioning even with the same buttons.
Troubleshooting checklist
| Problem | First check |
|---|---|
| Follow-up does not activate | Charge stage, resource and correct light/heavy input |
| Shield differs from expected | Check the active skill and conditional Perception state |
| Boss ignores the pull | Bosses are excluded from the ordinary grouping effect |
| Damage is inconsistent | Compare completed attacks, not just time spent charging |
When comparing gear, keep the same sequence and encounter. If one attempt repeatedly releases early and another finishes its charge, the comparison is measuring execution as well as equipment.
