Watch Battle Will before extending a combo
Battle Will is the pair’s special resource, also called Fighting Spirit in some descriptions. Predator’s Shield supplies both a shield and resource, while parts of the charged-attack and follow-up sequence spend Battle Will. Read the resource changes on the skills you actually have equipped.
Practise a short loop: activate the shield, make one charged attack with its available follow-up, then check what remains. If you cannot perform the follow-up, identify whether you missed the charge stage, lacked Battle Will or pressed outside the input window. Repeating the entire sequence faster hides those differences.
Learn defence before extending damage windows
Exquisite Scenery changes Thundercry Blade’s defensive interactions, including its special Defensive Riposte. Its behaviour was adjusted in May. Read your equipped tier before following a demonstration made with a different version or tier.
For practice, learn one enemy attack you can defend against consistently. Then add the riposte or follow-up. Leave enough attention for attacks that require movement. A long charge is a commitment: release or abandon it when finishing would leave you in a dangerous mechanic.
Make your tanking predictable for the party
Before a group encounter, confirm who is taking the tank role and where the boss should face. Use the spear’s taunt tool deliberately when the encounter permits it; do not repeatedly turn the boss through your allies while chasing personal damage.
- Keep dangerous frontal attacks directed away from teammates where the fight allows.
- Move for assigned mechanics even when a shield is active.
- Tell the group when you are learning the encounter.
- After a death, identify the missed mechanic or defensive window before asking for more healing.
These are group-play priorities. A shielded character who ignores an encounter’s required action can still fail the fight.
Choose upgrades that support the same role
Use the Path and Martial Art descriptions to distinguish offensive charge effects, shield effects and defensive-riposte effects. Art of Resistance and Exquisite Scenery address different parts of this kit; owning their names is not the same as having every tier effect active.
Compare gear in the activity you intend to play and keep a separate saved plan if you also run a damage role. Do not recycle a defensive item simply because another item raises an overall number. First check whether the old piece still belongs to that plan.
