The quick answer

Sheng Wu’s world encounter is in Verdant Wilds. Defend complete glaive strings, dodge the gold thrust and clear the two puppets during the intermission before resuming the duel.

Find the world encounter

Look south of the Verdant Wilds waypoint in Qinghe for Puppeteer Sheng Wu. This is the world-boss encounter, distinct from the early introductory appearance and from other Puppeteer variants.

Use a familiar weapon pair and learn one short punish before attempting a full rotation. Sheng Wu’s phase structure punishes spending every resource as though the first health bar were the whole encounter.

Learn where the glaive string ends

The glaive sequences vary in length. Defend each swing and wait for the final movement before attacking. The large weapon and spinning animation can obscure the last hit if you begin your own effects too early.

When an Exhausted opening becomes available, use the execution opportunity. Ordinary recovery gaps are better suited to short attacks; do not give every brief pause the same commitment as a full Qi break.

Separate the gold thrust from red pressure

The gold attack includes a backward preparation and a committed thrust. Evade the attack after it commits rather than trying to block or deflect its gold portion. In the later phase, the red rush offers a different defensive opportunity.

A proposed practice goal is to name the colour and choose your response before adding damage. Repeatedly surviving these two attacks is more useful than landing one ambitious combo between failed attempts.

Clear the puppet intermission

At the transition, Sheng Wu withdraws and two puppets become the immediate targets. Keep moving so they do not surround you, attack when a puppet’s action leaves an opening, and retain awareness of pressure from the boss.

Do not spend a major single-target attack on an unavailable main boss. Redirect effort to clearing the active enemies. A weapon with reach can help you keep space, but switching to an unfamiliar art mid-attempt can create more problems than it solves.

Resume the duel with smaller commitments

Once the puppets are gone, the main fight resumes with stronger red-attack pressure. Re-establish the boss’s position before returning to your normal sequence. The health refill is part of the encounter, not evidence that your first-phase damage failed to count.

Collect the passive reward

After the clear, inspect the reward and learn Exquisite Scenery if that is your target. Its Thundercry Blade interaction is a separate loadout choice; winning the encounter does not require using the weapon that benefits from the reward.
