The quick answer
Heavenquaker Spear rewards connected hits: Sober Sorrow establishes its buff state, then Sweep All uses that state. Learn the art through the Qinghe sanctum or its available sect route.

Find the right spear unlock
Open Heavenquaker Spear's acquisition entry and track its sanctum in Qinghe. Older descriptions call it the Raging Tides Sanctum; the acquisition marker is a better navigation aid than searching the map for one translated label. Complete the Skill Theft observation after entering the training area.
Raging Tides provides another route when its requirements are available to your character. Joining a sect is a larger commitment than learning one weapon, so review the sect conditions before choosing that route just for the spear.
Read the buff before the follow-up
Sober Sorrow is the spinning Martial Art Skill. Connected hits determine which state it grants: Water Drop, Spring Surge or River Flow. Sweep All changes according to that state, gaining a stronger reach and effect as the setup improves. Drifting Thrust is the charged series of forward thrusts.
The important distinction is between performing an animation and connecting its hits. Starting Sober Sorrow too far from a target can produce a poorer setup even if the entire animation completes. Look at the resulting buff instead of treating the skill cooldown as proof of success.
A deliberate practice sequence
Our suggested drill is to try the same enemy from two starting distances. At the first distance, begin close enough that the sweeps connect. At the second, begin near the edge of range. Compare the resulting buff and Sweep All's behaviour. This isolates positioning from gear and makes the mechanic easier to understand.
Next, practise using the follow-up while the acquired state is still active. Avoid spending the whole window running after an enemy. When the target will soon move, it can be better to delay the setup rather than begin a cycle you cannot finish.
Why Strategic Sword is the natural partner
The Bellstrike Umbra pairing connects the spear's pressure with Strategic Sword's Bleed cycle. Learn to identify when the sword has prepared its target, then return to the spear with a purpose. Swapping repeatedly without checking either weapon's state turns the pair into unrelated cooldowns.
Wolfchaser's Art further changes the spear's interaction, so use its actual tier when planning the cycle. A fully upgraded demonstration may contain effects your newly learned version does not have. Our Path guide connects the two weapons without assuming that every player owns the same upgrades.
Troubleshoot by observation
| What happened | What to inspect next |
|---|---|
| Weak Sweep All | Which Sober Sorrow state was active? |
| Good setup but no follow-through | Did the target leave range before you acted? |
| Charged thrust misses | Were you facing the target when committing? |
| Video shows extra effects | Compare Inner Way tiers and target conditions |
Do not interpret Fortitude as protection from every attack. Keep defensive actions available and stop a long sequence when the encounter demands movement. Landing a shorter, complete cycle is more useful practice than repeatedly dying halfway through a longer one.
Invest after the cycle works
Use a familiar fight to assess whether your main limitation is setup, survival or damage. If the buff is inconsistent, practise distance. If it is consistent but the follow-up is interrupted, change the opening. Only after those are stable does a gear comparison answer the question you think you are testing.
