Riptide Reflex: Veiled Blades reward and control-skill cooldowns

Get Riptide Reflex during Veiled Blades and use qualifying control hits to reduce Martial Art Skill cooldown.

The quick answer

Riptide Reflex is acquired during Veiled Blades, also called Shadowed Edge. Hitting with a qualifying control skill reduces the current Martial Art Skill’s cooldown, subject to its own trigger interval.

Collect it during the investigation

Follow Veiled Blades in Kaifeng from the conversation near Goldwater Street into its hidden-room investigation. Inspect the night attire at the reward stage to obtain Riptide Reflex, then finish the quest and Comprehend the art.

Shadowed Edge and Veiled Blades are alternate names for this quest. They are not two separate copies of the passive or two unlocks you must complete.

A control skill must actually connect

The trigger names control skills such as Bladebound Thread, Qiankun’s Lock, Spring Sorrow and Peak’s Springless Silence. Casting toward empty space does not satisfy “hitting an enemy.” Nor should every visually forceful attack be assumed to belong to the qualifying list.

Read the list in the current tooltip and identify the action in your own pair. For a rope-dart setup, that begins with learning Bladebound Thread’s actual hit and follow-up rather than pressing it from an unsuitable range.

Current skill and trigger interval matter

The reduction affects the current Martial Art Skill and has its own interval. It is not an unrestricted reset of both weapons every time a multi-hit control action connects.

This creates a sequencing question: which weapon and cooldown are active when the qualifying hit occurs? Observe the timer directly in a repeatable encounter before designing a rotation around a presumed reset.

What upgrades add

Later tiers strengthen the cooldown reduction and add benefits tied to your own control or related target state. A teammate’s visible crowd control is not a reliable substitute for checking the ownership condition named by the effect.

Decide whether it improves your loop

An editorial fit test is to identify one useful skill that becomes available earlier because of Riptide Reflex, then ask whether the encounter gives you a safe chance to use it. A shorter timer has little practical value if the target is unavailable or your required resource is empty.

Evaluate the base behaviour first. Upgrade after you can explain the trigger and the cooldown it changes, rather than spending Notes to chase an interaction your weapon pair never activates.
