The quick answer

Start in the Grand Imperial Temple’s Lantern Hall
Enter Kaifeng and visit the small hall in the northeast of the Grand Imperial Temple gardens. Speak with the Lamp-lighting Monk and agree to find the people connected to his unlit lamps.
The quest advances across in-game days. Use the clock after completing each visitor’s stage rather than waiting for a real-world daily reset.
Bring back the three visitors
| Stage | Where to go and what to do |
|---|---|
| Benevolent Li | Look near the tree by the building opposite the hall. In the conversation, choose the responses about thanking the Lamp Monk and being asked to turn back. Return to the hall. |
| Mingniang | Advance to the next in-game day. Find her by the entrance of the adjacent large temple building, then bring her back. |
| Deng Santong | Advance another day. Look near the small stairs of the opposite building. Bring him back and complete the fight that interrupts the final stage. |
Solve each sliding-lantern board
After each visitor returns, interact with the lantern board. The objective is to move the special glowing lantern to its marked destination. The later boards contain connected blocks, so those lamps move together rather than independently.
- Find the destination and trace the route the special lantern needs.
- Identify which block occupies the next required space.
- Move that blocker into an empty edge space without trapping the special lantern.
- For a connected block, reserve enough free space for its whole shape.
- Bring the special lantern through the cleared route and continue the dialogue.
If a move leaves no space to shift the next blocker, work backward from the destination and revise the order. Treating a connected pair as two independent lamps is the main planning mistake to avoid.
Finish the last conversation and claim the tome
Complete the final lantern scene and the remaining dialogue. Open Journal → Wandering Tales and claim A Faltering Flame’s reward. Check the Inner Ways menu for Fivefold Bleed and equip it if you want its effect active.
A completed conversation is not proof that every Journal reward has been collected. Check that final claim before repeating earlier visits.
Track Weeping Blood separately from weapon Bleed
Fivefold Bleed can apply Weeping Blood when you deal damage. Its stack completion produces a Piercing-damage event. Strategic Sword’s Bleed belongs to a separate weapon mechanic, so do not read one icon as the progress of the other.
This distinction matters when checking a rotation. If your weapon Bleed disappears after a finisher, it does not prove that Fivefold Bleed failed. Inspect the named effect and the condition your intended skill actually consumes.

Common questions
Do I wait three real days?
No. The visitor sequence uses in-game days, which you can advance with the clock.
Is Weeping Blood the same as Strategic Sword Bleed?
No. Read and track the two named effects separately.
