Start at Battlecrest Slope and find the map
Find Lie Bujin outside the Northern Vow Ruins at Battlecrest Slope in Qinghe. Speak to him about the bandits to start Echoes of Old Battles. Enter the fortress, clear the route to the training ground and defeat Zhang Bao.
After the fight, open the clue chest near the prisoner’s platform. The treasure map identifies the flame contraptions needed for the next mechanism. Read the map before altering the braziers; lighting every object around the arena is not the solution.
Set the braziers and learn the oath
- Match the lit braziers to the treasure map, including any that are already burning.
- When the central circular platform rises, jump above it and use Mighty Drop.
- Descend into the opened passage and inspect the corpse in a ceremonial pose.
- Learn the Yanyun Oath gesture and read its clue.
- Continue to the large statue and perform that gesture to activate the wall puzzle.
The clue and gesture are both useful. Knowing the wall answer does not replace the interaction that activates the chamber. If the blocks are unresponsive, return to the corpse and statue steps before changing random switches.
Leave only the oath characters illuminated

Pulling a movable block out lights it; pushing it in darkens it. Leave the oath characters visible and darken the other movable characters. The final arrangement matters, not a rapid sequence of presses.
Work across one wall at a time and compare each character with the clue. Some correct characters are fixed rather than movable switches. If the door stays shut, look for an extra illuminated character as well as a missing correct one; repeatedly toggling a block you already checked makes the state harder to track.
Release the mechanism behind the waterfall
Beyond the opened gate, watch for low tripwires and follow the route into the waterfall chamber. Inspect the stalled waterwheel, walk behind the falling water and interact with the chain mechanism that frees it.
Return to the newly available route and enter the final chamber. Collect the inner treasure containing Touch of Death, then finish the inscription and quest interactions before taking the exit. Passing through the room without opening the reward chest does not collect the skill.
Use the assassination prompt on an unaware target
Touch of Death is a passive stealth ability rather than a normal active-slot cast. Approach an unaware enemy from behind, stay quiet and wait for the special attack prompt. Use that prompt to perform the opening strike.
Start with an isolated ordinary enemy so another patrol does not discover you during the approach. Stronger enemies are not guaranteed to die from one hit. Plan a retreat or normal combat follow-up instead of assuming the skill’s name promises an instant kill on every target.
