Rock Solid: Dao Lord reward and Storm Roar’s defensive trade-off

Learn Rock Solid from Dao Lord and weigh Stormbreaker Spear’s taunt defence against its damage penalty.

The quick answer

Complete Unbound Cavern and defeat Dao Lord to learn Rock Solid. It strengthens Stormbreaker Spear’s taunt-related defence, but its base defensive window also reduces your damage dealt.

Follow the Kaifeng campaign

Progress Chapter 2’s Accident story into Unbound Cavern and the Dao Lord encounter at Ghostlight Market. Complete the campaign rewards, collect Rock Solid and Comprehend it.

If Unbound Cavern is unavailable, check the story objective that opens the campaign. Searching unrelated chests will not replace the required completion.

Equip the art that supplies the trigger

Rock Solid’s central interaction is Stormbreaker Spear’s Storm Roar and its taunt. It is not activated merely by holding any spear or by choosing a defensive role in a group menu.

Learn when you need the boss facing you and where you want it positioned before using the taunt. The passive supports that job; it does not make poor boss placement harmless to the rest of the group.

Understand the trade-off

The base effect increases damage reduction after the taunt interaction and reduces damage dealt while that defensive benefit is active. Boss and non-boss conditions are described separately. Read the relevant case instead of assuming one number applies to every target count.

This can be a sensible trade for surviving a dangerous tanking window. It can be a poor fit if you selected it solely to raise personal damage in an encounter where you do not need its defence.

Keep shield and taunt decisions separate

A shield-focused passive, a Storm Roar modifier and a general defensive stat can all help survival in different ways. Compare the actual condition each needs. Do not treat every defensive Inner Way as an interchangeable permanent reduction.

Your problemQuestion before choosing Rock Solid
Boss damage during your taunt dutyCan Storm Roar cover the dangerous window?
Random hits while not using StormbreakerWill the central interaction activate?
Low personal damageAre you accepting a defensive trade deliberately?
Later self-healing expectedHave you unlocked the tier that provides it?

Invest for your role

Later progression includes additional taunted-target and recovery interactions. Judge them against the work you actually perform in Sword Trial or another group activity, not only a solo damage demonstration.

A proposed review after a run is to identify the moment you used Storm Roar, the damage it needed to cover and whether the target stayed positioned safely. That gives a concrete reason to improve the setup without assuming a higher tier can correct the timing of the taunt.
