The quick answer
Adaptive Steel comes from Qi Sheng’s Oddity exchange progression in Verdant Wilds. Its Weapon Mastery effect depends on the blade family you are using, so it is not one identical damage bonus for every weapon.

Find the reward node before collecting more Oddities
- Visit Qi Sheng between General’s Shrine and the Verdant Wilds Wayfarer in Qinghe.
- Open his Oddity reward progression and locate the node displaying Adaptive Steel: Tome. Inspect the earlier nodes as well as the selected node’s requirement.
- Turn in the necessary Oddities, claim the Tome and learn Adaptive Steel through the Inner Ways screen.
The cost shown on one node is not necessarily the total needed from an untouched reward track. Use your own completed nodes to work out the remaining collection goal; a short “four Oddities” tip can omit earlier progress.

Probabilities, internal cooldowns and supported families have changed across descriptions. Read the full current tooltip rather than combining the percentage from one older list with the cooldown from another.
Try a weapon swap deliberately
Our suggested comparison is one short fight with each weapon as the main attacker. Write down the trigger you expect before starting. A spear-focused sequence and a sword-focused sequence are answering different questions, even though the same Inner Way occupies the slot.
For a dual-blade test, ordinary dodging is not enough: the condition calls for a Perfect Dodge. For a sword test, distinguish Affinity damage from a normal hit. If you cannot yet recognise the trigger, practise it before committing a selection chest.
Separate learning from breakthrough effects
Later tiers also interact with Dual-Weapon Skills, including resource recovery and retaining a previous mastery effect. Those are tier-specific features. Simply switching weapons does not mean every mastery is permanently active together.
