The quick answer

Progress Bodhi Sea in Sundara Land, follow its drum objectives and return to Zhang Yinmang to enter the illusion. Against Ye Wanshan, delay your deflect until the attack arrives. In the second phase, wait through the glaive follow-up before healing or attacking.

Follow the Bodhi Sea quest into the illusion

Bodhi Sea lies in Qinghe’s Sundara Land near the Halo Peak area. Track its quest, complete the drum interactions and return to Zhang Yinmang when directed. Continue into the illusion and approach General Ye Wanshan to start the battle.

If the arena is inaccessible, check the current quest objective rather than looking only for a boss icon. The story route establishes the encounter; the Campaign Challenge becomes useful for subsequent attempts.

Do not deflect at the start of every red glow

Ye Wanshan’s attacks include deliberate pauses before the weapon reaches you. A red flash identifies a dangerous, deflectable attack, but pressing immediately can finish your response before the hit arrives.

Our suggested drill is to stop attacking for one familiar red sequence and watch the weapon itself. Deflect as the strike closes the remaining distance. When that works consistently, add a short counter after the recovery. This isolates timing from the distraction of your own animation.

If you are hit during your counter, shorten the counter. If you are hit while waiting defensively, adjust the response timing. Buying more damage will not by itself resolve either input problem.

Respect the flaming weapon and second throw

The later phase adds fire to his attacks, a larger slam and a glaive-throw sequence with a follow-up. Stay ready after the first throw; using medicine immediately can expose you to the next one.

Watch the ground around the slam instead of staring only at his health. Our recommendation is to re-enter melee after the whole pattern has ended, take one controlled sequence and leave room to defend again. This is especially useful if the fire effects make the weapon harder to track.

Use the contextual Cloud Steps opening

Ye Wanshan has a charging attack that can expose a Cloud Steps counter. Use the actual prompt when it appears rather than repeatedly casting in the hope of forcing that opening. The prompt tells you the encounter is offering the relevant response.

Keep him alive long enough for Flaming Meteor

If you also want Flaming Meteor, watch its comprehension indicator while deflecting the qualifying red attacks. Fill the meter before ending the encounter. A victory and a completed learning objective are different outcomes.

If survival is your immediate problem, make the first attempt about reaching and reading the second phase. You can return with a clearer plan for the skill once the basic defence is reliable.

Common questions

Why do my deflects fail when I see the red flash?

Several attacks have a delay. Follow the strike into impact rather than treating the first flash as an immediate input cue.

Can I heal after the first glaive throw?

Wait for the follow-up and a clear recovery. The first throw does not necessarily end the sequence.
