Follow the lantern thief
At Skybrim Market, investigate the boy who takes the lantern and follow the sequence through the mask stall. Continue east into the hidden cave. This section restricts your movement, so use its ladders and platforms rather than planning around your full open-world jump range.
Pass the guards and open the western gates to the giant-serpent chamber. Talk to A’Hui and reach the painting above. Each painting changes the scene; the next route may begin in a memory rather than the cave you just left.
Collect the flags before defending Zhang Yichao
In the desert memory, collect the military flags as you advance through successive scenes. Inspect the table and allow Zhang Yichao’s conversations to finish. The flags are used at the sand table near the end of this sequence.
Place the collected flags when prompted, then protect Zhang Yichao from the attacking soldiers. If the table does not advance, check the current interaction and previous flag pickups. Running past a story interaction is a different problem from being unable to win the defense encounter.
Use both bells to move the serpent
Back in the cave, shoot the bell to draw the serpent into position. Climb across its body and the adjacent structures, watching its movement before committing to the next jump. Shoot the higher bell when it comes into view to change the route again.
From the serpent’s head, continue down the building structure and cross the lit lanterns to the next painting. If the jump looks far beyond the section’s movement allowance, look for the next bell or lower platform before attempting it repeatedly.
Stay with A’Hui through the scroll scene
Inside the water-and-scroll memory, follow A’Hui through the conversations. When the sequence returns you to the cave, continue the chase and use the displayed quick-time prompts to avoid the snake.
The following painting leads to a hall of ministers and the throne route. Move forward through that scene and respond to its serpent prompt. The story has more than one return to the cave, so recognizing a familiar room does not mean the quest reset.
Reach the final upstairs conversation
After the last return, climb the rocks and follow A’Hui up the stairs. Continue through the painting interaction and go upstairs to meet Zhang Yichao. Wait for the concluding conversation before leaving the area.
The rewards include the Light and Shadow Alike Tome and Unquestioning Loyalty decoration. For an interrupted run, resume from the journal’s current objective: flags, bell traversal and the concluding meeting are separate stages.
