The quick answer
Activate Boundary Stones in person, then select an unlocked destination on the map to teleport. Speak to each area’s Wayfarer to reveal its map. Revealing an area and activating its travel points are separate steps; a visible stone is not necessarily an unlocked destination.

Activate a Boundary Stone before you need it
When your route passes a Boundary Stone, walk up and use its activation interaction. Open the map afterward and confirm it can be selected as a travel destination. Passing close to a symbol while fighting is not a reliable check that you finished the interaction.
The most useful detours are often the stones near quest hubs, a regional exchange NPC or the entrance to a layered dungeon. A few seconds spent activating one can remove a much longer return journey. Choose points on your route rather than crossing an entire region purely to collect travel icons.
Use Wayfarers to reveal the area
Wayfarers are associated with campfires and introduce the surrounding area. Speak with the local one to obtain the regional map information. When an area is still dark, selecting its name on the map can reveal a hint toward its Wayfarer.
| Map state | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Area dark | Its map information has not been revealed. | Find the area’s Wayfarer. |
| Stone visible but unavailable | Knowing its position is not the same as activating it. | Travel there and interact with the stone. |
| Marker appears above or below you | The objective may be on a different layer. | Look for an entrance, stairway or layer selector. |
| Previously cleared icon missing | Completed activity filters may be hiding it. | Review the map’s POI filters. |
Choose a route, not just the closest icon
Straight-line distance can be misleading around cliffs and underground areas. A stone on the correct side of a ridge or on the correct floor may be better than the nearest one on the map. Trace the road or entrance before confirming a long detour.
If teleport is unavailable, finish the immediate encounter or scripted interaction and read the on-screen reason. Avoid repeatedly trying to teleport out of a sequence that still expects a conversation or objective. If you are visiting another player, also check whose world and location you are using.
Use stones as a recovery stop
Boundary Stones also support recovery. Carried medicine can be replenished from your stock when you stand nearby; an empty medicine inventory is a different issue from an unfilled carried supply. Check both before concluding that the stone failed.
A convenient preparation route is to stop at a stone, inspect your medicine and active loadout, then approach the next encounter. This is particularly useful after changing equipment or returning from a break, when the character on screen may not match the plan you remember.
Find a missing completed activity
The May map update added Show/Hide Completed Gameplay in the POI Filter panel, with completed activities hidden by default. If you are revisiting a cleared objective, change that filter before searching the landscape again.
Keep personal map notes specific: identify the entrance and any missing skill, not just the reward’s apparent position. “Underground door beneath the shrine” is a useful return note. “Chest here” can send you back to the wrong floor.

Common questions
Does revealing the map activate every Boundary Stone?
No. Treat area revelation and each travel-point activation as separate tasks.
Do I need to stand at a stone to choose another one?
Fast travel is selected from the map when the current game state allows it; the destination must be available.
