Gear tuning and retuning: choose a piece and avoid the wrong reset

Unlock Tuning, inspect the affix library, distinguish Retuning from a full Tuning Reset and decide when a piece is worth more materials.

The quick answer

Tuning adds attributes to eligible gear using tier-matched materials. Retuning works on an eligible attribute through its own library. A full Tuning Reset is a different operation that discards development on qualifying gear; read the result preview before confirming any of these actions.

Check the unlock and the gear together

The initial unlock requires character level 41 and World Level 5. After that, the selected item must still support Tuning. Low-rarity gear, incompatible tiers and specialised development types can behave differently.

Open Develop → Gear, select the item and inspect its available development actions. If it is marked Relaid, follow its Modulating route rather than trying to force the ordinary Tuning process.

Start with a reason to keep the piece

Compare its initial attribute, intended slot and role in your equipment plan. A higher rating does not guarantee that its stats solve your current problem. For example, a character missing attacks needs to understand Precision before chasing an unrelated damage line.

Our suggested decision is simple: name the improvement you want before adding materials. If you cannot explain which useful attribute the piece could gain, inspect the library first or save the materials for a clearer candidate.

Add materials, then inspect the revealed attribute

  1. Select the correct piece and its Tuning action.
  2. Check the tier accepted by the material panel.
  3. Review the material selection, including any gear selected automatically.
  4. Add enough material for the intended progress and confirm the result.
  5. Read the new attribute before deciding whether to continue.

Lock equipment you still need before using an automatic material selection. A spare item can belong to another saved setup or be useful in the Arsenal even if you are not wearing it now.

Use the library preview to assess Retuning

Choose the eligible attribute and the intended Retuning library, then open Preview. Unavailable results are dimmed. This lets you check whether the outcome you want is actually possible on the selected item.

A new attribute type and a strong value are different outcomes. Decide in advance what result is acceptable and stop when it meets that purpose. Repeatedly paying to replace a usable line without a specific target can consume materials with little practical gain.

Retuning Correction has its own availability and cooldown. Read the selected item’s timer rather than assuming an older screenshot describes every current item.

A full reset is a separate decision

The published Version 2.0 rules allow Tuning Reset on qualifying Tier 100 Epic and Legendary gear, excluding Archery Arts, Relaid and Swallowcall gear. It retains initial attributes, removes later development, refunds no spent materials and is irreversible.

Compare two concrete costs before confirming: improving the existing piece, or rebuilding it after the reset. If you do not have the materials to rebuild immediately, you may temporarily lose a useful equipped item. Keep a usable replacement available.

Common questions

Why is Tuning unavailable on my item?

Check the feature unlock, the item’s rarity and tier, and whether it uses a specialised route such as Relaid Gear Modulating.

Is a full Tuning Reset a free retry?

No. The published reset rules do not refund spent development materials. Read what will be removed before confirming.
