Return to the scholar across the opening days
Find the scholar near the large bell north of Buddha Fort in Qinghe. Speak to him, advance one in-game day and return for the next conversation. After the next wait, approach the bell itself: the scholar is now trapped inside it.
The opening conversations can precede the tracked quest. Check the bell’s interaction before deciding that an absent seated scholar means the chain has reset. These waits can use the world clock.
Gather the three dyes
Agree to help and visit Little Needle at the embroidery workshop in the nearby village. Take red and blue dye from the vats and collect charcoal ash from the indoor brazier for black.
Hand over the materials, advance the requested day and collect the Celestial Silk Garment. Return toward the scholar, but use the indicated eavesdropping position to hear his confrontation before approaching him. Inspect the scene and collect the first mysterious handkerchief.
Investigate Monk Tranquillus and set the trap
Follow Little Needle’s lead to the monk south of the fort. Complete his sparring encounters, then search the nearby leaves or fence area for the second handkerchief. Return to him with that evidence and finish the trap-planning conversation.
Only after this stage, burn the vines at the cave entrance with Fire Arrows. Earlier attempts at the same vines may not progress the quest because the trap objective is not active yet. Hide at the indicated position, follow the mysterious woman when she appears and return to the monk afterward.
Collect the letter pointing toward Northern Bamboo Grove and speak to Little Needle before travelling onward.
Seize the letter from the pavilion owner’s wagon
Find the Embroidery Pavilion Owner near the grove reached from Bamboo Retreat. Show him both handkerchiefs, investigate his wagon and use Celestial Seize to obtain the Boss’s Secret Letter.
This is an item-seizure step. Repeating dialogue will not replace collecting the letter, and having only one handkerchief can leave the investigation at the preceding stage.
Inspect the concealed ambush
Use Mighty Drop on the marked breakable ground at the ruins and inspect the gunpowder below. Return above and examine the concealed wall with firing holes.
Use Wind Sense in the bamboo area to locate the glowing listening position near two suspicious people. Stand at that position and complete the eavesdropping interaction, then return to Little Needle and the owner for the final sequence. Respond to the warning prompt, finish the rescue and complete the concluding conversations.

The garment pickup is not the quest ending. Continue through the bamboo investigation and final conversations to receive the completion rewards, including the Metamorphosis title.
