The quick answer
Against Zheng E, keep your attacks short and watch for his counter. In the ice-pillar sequence, dodge the first two gold waves and deflect the third red wave to bring him down. Treat delayed ground ice as part of the attack.

Reach the fight through Ever-Normal Granary
Zheng E is the boss at the end of Ever-Normal Granary in Kaifeng’s Granary of Plenty. Follow the quest’s flower and waterwheel route first. Its Campaign challenge becomes a separate repeatable activity after the story clear.
Have medicine ready and consider Meridian Touch for the interruptible red fan attack. Keep your familiar Martial Arts for the first attempts; learning his cues and changing your entire build simultaneously makes mistakes harder to diagnose.
Phase one: avoid attacking into his reply
Zheng can defend against your pressure and retaliate. Use a short attack, then prepare to answer his next action. His fan strings can also leave a delayed ice eruption, so a successful defense against the first hit is not necessarily the end of the sequence.
| Cue | Response |
|---|---|
| Red fan attack | Deflect it or use Meridian Touch when the interrupt opportunity is available. |
| Twin ice walls / Double Wave | Dodge sideways rather than treating every projectile as deflectable. |
| Several homing shards | Track the sequence and answer each arrival; do not attack after only the first. |
| Fan swing followed by ground ice | Move out of the delayed effect before committing to a punish. |
Our recommendation is to spend the first attempt recognising the delayed effects. Taking one fewer greedy hit often matters more than adding one extra swing.
Phase two: dodge, dodge, deflect
- When Zheng moves onto the ice pillar, keep him and the incoming waves in view.
- Dodge the first gold wave to the side.
- Dodge the second gold wave.
- Prepare for the different third wave and deflect its red attack to break the pillar and bring him down.
Do not carry the same response through all three waves. The color change is the important cue, and backing away to keep shooting can prolong the dangerous elevated section.
After he lands, respect the new moveset
The grounded second phase uses a lance, rushes and further ice projectiles. Keep your punish short after a defended sequence. If ice rains down across your position, keep moving until that barrage finishes rather than standing still to complete an attack animation.
Watch his Qi bar and take the Execute opportunity when he becomes Exhausted. If an attempt fails, identify whether the problem was the pillar sequence, a missed follow-up or overcommitting after a defense. Practise that stage on the next attempt.
Complete the story before planning repeat rewards
After the victory, return to the Granary walkthrough for Zheng E’s later conversation and notes request. If entering the repeatable Campaign version, inspect its reward and Energy conditions separately; the first story clear does not establish the cost of every later run.
