Martial Mastery explained

Understand what Martial Mastery measures, audit a low score and improve an active build without confusing score with combat performance.

The quick answer

Martial Mastery is a development score, not a direct measurement of damage or player skill. To raise it sensibly, inspect the active build for neglected Martial Arts, equipment and other development tracks. Keep the score requirement separate from whether the build actually works in the activity.

What the number can and cannot tell you

Martial Mastery summarises development across your character setup. It is useful as a prompt to investigate unfinished upgrades and as an access or readiness indicator where the game asks for it. It is not the same thing as character level.

It also cannot tell you whether a passive triggers during your rotation, whether you can avoid a boss mechanic, or whether your chosen tools suit a support role. Two characters with similar scores can produce very different results because their equipment and play patterns differ.

Audit the active build in a fixed order

  1. Confirm that the intended Battle Build is active.
  2. Inspect both equipped Martial Arts for missed levels or breakthroughs.
  3. Review the gear pieces and their slot enhancement.
  4. Check the equipped Inner Ways and their development.
  5. Review the Mystic Skills you actually use and any available development systems such as the Arsenal.
  6. Claim completed advancement rewards and recheck the relevant requirement.

Use the breakdown available in your client to choose the next correction. Do not assume the largest missing category is also the best use of your rarest resource; compare its cost with your actual shortfall.

Do not trade a working build for a meaningless increase

Imagine replacing a piece that completes a useful set with a higher-scoring item whose attributes do little for your attacks. The panel may improve while your regular sequence becomes less effective. Keep the old item and compare the whole setup before recycling anything.

The same reasoning applies to passives. A developed Inner Way with an irrelevant trigger can look attractive on a menu but contribute less to your encounters than a lower-tier effect that activates reliably. Read the condition before deciding that rarity or score settles the comparison.

When you are below an entry requirement

Write down the required score and your current value, then list the upgrades already within reach. Start with missed claims, unused equipment improvements and relevant low-cost development. If you are also below a character or Solo Mode requirement, solve that gate separately.

Our recommendation is to aim for a functioning build that meets the requirement, then practise the activity. Spending every resource just to exceed the threshold by a large margin can leave you unable to develop the tools that the encounter actually needs.

Measure improvement with a repeatable comparison

Use the same practice target or encounter, the same starting conditions and the same short sequence before and after a change. Look at survival, resource use and how often your intended effects trigger, as well as damage. One unusually good attempt is not a reliable comparison.

If a score increase does not fix the problem, identify the remaining cause. Repeated deaths to one warning attack suggest a timing issue; losing your damage window while swapping suggests a sequence issue. Those are useful findings because they tell you what to practise next.

Common questions

Should I farm whatever gives the largest Mastery increase?

Only after checking that it helps your goal. For an entry threshold, inexpensive relevant upgrades are sensible; beyond that, build compatibility and execution deserve more attention than the score alone.

Can I calculate the exact Mastery gain before every upgrade?

Use a preview or score breakdown where the game provides one. This guide does not assign unverified points to each upgrade. If no preview exists, compare the panel before and after one relevant low-cost change instead of assuming a universal score formula.
